Miller voted SEC Coach of the Year

SOUTHERN PINES — It was a close battle between the Richmond Senior and Pinecrest girls cross country teams at the conference championship race that was held Thursday afternoon, but the Lady Patriots came out on top after pulling away in the last stretch.

“Our girls left it all on the course — blood, sweat and tears,” coach Reggie Miller said. “I am so proud of them.”

Miller was named SEC Women’s Coach of the Year, while Ariel Brown, Harmony Jones, Summer Moore, Emily Buie and Cameron Hudson were all named First-Team All Conference.

The boys team placed fourth Thursday, as Zachariah Hamilton finished ninth and Dylan Richardson finished 21st. Hamilton was also named First Team All-SEC.

Both boys and girls teams will compete in the 4A Regional Cross Country Championship at South View High School next Saturday, Oct 29.

King, Copeland finish 2nd

ROCKINGHAM — Ellerbe’s Tyler King and Hamlet’s Jalice Copeland both finished second overall in their respective races at the SEMSAC cross country meet that took place at Hinson Lake on Thursday.

King finished behind East Hoke’s Dedrick Rush, while Copeland was runner-up to CTCA’s Tabitha Williams.

Ellerbe’s boys finished with 31 total points — which was enough to help the Wildcats place first as a team. Rockingham (59) came in third place, Hamlet (119) was sixth and Rohanen (193) was ninth.

In the girls race, Rockingham came in first place. Karter Walker (third), Gracelyn Weatherford (seventh) and Alena Craddock (eighth) led the way for the Lady Rockets on the afternoon.

Copeland’s second-place effort helped the Lady Red Rams finished second. Teammates Jayda Williams (fourth) and Kaylee Grant (fifth) also placed in the top 10.
