JV baseball falls 14-13 in nine

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior junior varsity baseball team forced extra innings Tuesday evening, but eventually fell to Purnell Swett by a score of 14-13.

The Raiders went into the bottom of the seventh down 12-7, but an RBI-single from Alex Anderson sparked a five-run inning.

A base hit from Tyler Bass brought home Brett Young, a wild pitch helped Anderson get to home plate and then a Jake Ransom RBI-single and an error in the outfield brought two runners home, which tied the game up at 12.

Richmond would only score one run in the next two innings.

The JV baseball team will travel to Purnell Swett at 7 p.m. Friday.

Richmond softball falls to Marlboro Academy

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. — Greyson Way’s two-run RBI in the sixth inning to tie the game wasn’t enough, as the Richmond Senior softball team fell 3-2 to Marlboro Academy Wednesday night.

Way, Doodle Jacobs, Kelsey Mabe, Owen Bowers and Carleigh Haywood each had one hit on the night.

Mackenzie Ward started on the mound, throwing four innings and giving up four hits and one run. She added one strikeout.

NaLee Jacobs threw two innings and gave up two runs and two hits. She also added a strikeout.

The Lady Raiders (9-3, 3-0) travel to Pinecrest Friday. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Church Softball League to hold meeting

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Church Softball League has scheduled a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 11 at Freedom Baptist Church on U.S. 1 North.

Any church that wishes to have a team in the league this year must have a representative at the meeting.
