Wildcats start off on right foot

ELLERBE — The Ellerbe Middle soccer teams opened the season Wednesday with a sweep of the Carver Eagles. Rosalinda Jaimes-Vences, Briana Tarlton and Monasia Kearns each scored a goal in the Lady Wildcats’ 3-1 win in the first contest.

The boys also clipped the Eagles by a score of 3-1. Johan Chavez, River Meacham and Cambry Fonseca all scored for the Wildcats.

Both soccer teams are now 1-0 and will play at East Hoke Middle on March 15.

Ultra Series Race comes to Ellerbe

ELLERBE — Windy Hill Sports will host the opening round of the 2016 Victory Sports Ultra Series this Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 at the Sports Complex in Ellerbe.

Rockingham Middle girls win SEC championship

ROCKINGHAM — After defeating Anson Middle School 35-27, the Lady Rockets are now the Southeastern Middle School champions.

Head coach Teresa Mason and assistant coaches Wandesha Jackson and Cameron Hairson guided the girls to an 8-1 finish on the season.

Georgia Grace Anderson, Hannah Bennett, Jakerra Covington, Kayla Hawkins, Jadyn Johnson, Madison Jordan, Kalynn Leviner, Keionna Love, Layne Maultsby, Jayla McDougald, Hailey Miller and Allexis Swiney all contributed to Rockingham’s on-court success throughout its championship run.

Allyiah Swiney and Mariah Waddell also deserve credit for their help as scorekeeper and manager, respectively.
