Burns named on soccer website

Wills Burns, the grandson of Pete and Carolyn Ussery of Rockingham, was recently mentioned by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Burns, who will be attending West Forsyth in Clemmons, was one of 11 regionally-ranked players from the Class of 2019 from around the country highlighted in the story. Burns plays midfield from the North Carolina Fusion U14 Development Academy team. He was also a member of the Futsal Southeast Region Team and attended the Futsal National camp in Kansas City.

Richmond to hold volleyball camp

The annual Richmond Senior Volleyball Camp is set for July 28 and 29. The camp is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon each day in Raider Gymnasium. The camp is open to girls who will be entering fifth through eighth grade this fall. The cost is $30 and includes a T-shirt. Campers should bring a water bottle and knee pads each day. Forms are available at the high school and Browder Park. The goal of the camp is to “provide an opportunity for all camp participants to develop their fundamental volleyball skills and to increase their knowledge of the game while having fun.” For information, contact Michelle Wimpey at 910-723-5463.

Soccer signups to continue in Hamlet

Youth soccer registration for the city of Hamlet Parks and Recreation Department will continue until July 24 and a late registration period will be held July 27 to 31. The cost is $30 per child and $40 during the late registration period. Signups will be accepted at Hamlet City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Participants must have turned 4 years old by April 30 and cannot have turned 13 by the same date. For information, contact the Hamlet Parks and Recreation Department at 910-582-7998.

Adult basketball league to begin

The city of Hamlet Parks and Recreation Department will have an adult over 30 basketball league. Signups for teams or individuals is currently being accepted until July 31. The cost is $250 for teams and $35 for individuals. Anyone who registers as an individual will be placed on a team if there are enough players. Rockingham opens youth soccer registration

The Rockingham Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting youth soccer registrations until Aug. 10. The cost is $25 for city residents and $45 for non-city residents. There will be an additional $6 charge if the child is not currently insured by the department. Participants must be at least 4 years of age on or before Aug. 1 and cannot turn 16 by the same date.
