To celebrate Black History Month, Barbara Stroman performed "In The Morning". A poem written by Paul Laurence Dunbar, the first African American poet to gain national recognition. Stroman, who has performed the poem in a number of churches and will perform it again on Sunday, is pictured at St. Peters in Hamlet. Stroman said she learned the poem over 40 years ago and it never completely left her memory.

A hot dog fundraiser was held Friday to help a local woman with medical bills, the result of treatment for a tumor in her stomach. The kids of Faith Academy, in Rockingham, got the idea to help their math teacher and co-founder of the academy, Cassie Patrick, with medical bills she received after having surgery.
