Bill requires drug tests for benefits
A bill that would require applicants and recipients of the Work First Benefit program to take a drug test was moved to the Health Care Committee in the State Senate last week. Senate Bill 594, titled Require Drug Testing/Work First Benefits, was filed on April 2 by Senator Jim Davis, for North Carolina’s 50th District. The show covered music from Motown greats, such as The Temptations, The Supremes and Smokey Robinson. The show was part of the DeWitt Performing Arts Series at Richmond Community College. The next show of the series will be Sandi Patty on Thursday, May 2, and a limited number of tickets remain. Members of the Director’s Circle get to meet the performers for most of the DeWitt Series performances and enjoy private pre-show drinks among other special perks. Ingram awarded Mason of the Year
Curtis Ingram of Hamlet has been named Mason of the Year by Poplar Hill Lodge 331 for his leadership in the community. Formerly of Rockingham, Ingram grew up in the Philadelphia community. He is 45, and is retired from the NC Department of Correction. On Friday, Ingram also received a plaque for outstanding service to the community. Hamlet gets a makeover
The City of Hamlet got a new look on Saturday thanks to CSX and City Year. About 90 volunteers helped build picnic tables, benches and garden boxes for the city. The volunteers also painted murals, including a mural at the local ball park, painted the caboose located at the entrance of the park and landscaped the area around the Hamlet City Lake.
