Hearing set on new budget, rezoning approved
The Rockingham City Council at its Tuesday meeting set the date for a public hearing on the city’s proposed spending plan for the next fiscal year, a general fund budget of about $9.1 million. The Hamlet City Council will meet tonight for its regular monthly meeting at Hamlet City Hall, at 201 Main St. in Hamlet, at 7 p.m. The meeting will include comments from attendees, approval of budget amendments as well as a City Manager Marchell Adams-David’s report, comments from the council and comments from Hamlet Mayor Jeff Smart. Wildfire burns 25 acres north of Rockingham Speedway
The North Carolina Forest Service of Richmond County is working to contain a wild fire, said to be located on the east side of Highway U.S. 1, just north of the Rockingham Speedway. According to Forester Don Watson, the wild fire looks to be at least 25 acres wide and growing.
