The kids of Faith Academy, in Rockingham, got the idea to help their math teacher and co-founder of the academy, Cassie Patrick, with medical bills she received after having surgery. McNeill, who was appointed by Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Tanya Wallace, was born in High Point and moved to Rockingham when she was 15. She graduated in 2001 from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a bachelor’s in sociology. McNeill has two children, ages 26 and 27. “I am thankful for the opportunity to represent the citizens of Richmond County and to be the first African American woman to serve as magistrate,” McNeill said. She is replacing former magistrate Charles Payne who retired in December 2012.
