Senior Tyrone Crowder, a football player for the Richmond Raiders, spoke with a room full of students at Big Pine Retreat in Hamlet on Friday, April 26. Crowder talked about his path to success, as well as the importance of maintaining good grades, good behavior and knowing how to face challenges in a positive way. “For me, there are people in the stands — teachers, families, my coaches — and I’ve got to be a good example for them,” Crowder said. The offensive lineman also talked to students about surrounding themselves with the right kinds of people and controlling their tempers in difficult situations. Crowder announced earlier in the year that he plans to play football at Clemson University this fall. At Richmond Senior High, he is an honor roll student and a member of the school senate.

The following arrests were recently made by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office: • Clyde Wayne Butler Jr., 26, of Meacheam Road, Wadesboro, was arrested and charged with first degree kidnapping, assault on a female and larceny of a motor vehicle, according to the arrest report. The City of Rockingham Parks and Recreation will begin accepting registration for the 2013 Summer Day Camp Program Wednesday, May 1. The camp will start Monday, June 1 and conclude on Friday, Aug. 9. The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce has announced that it will be relocating its office. After moving into the historic Rockingham Depot several years ago, chamber officials announced this week that they will be changing venues — this time moving into the Hamlet Historic Depot and Museum, located on Main Street in Hamlet.
