Students from Washington Street Elementary School toured the past Thursday, starting with the Bostick Schoolhouse on Clayton Carriker Road. Ken Bostick’s third grade class toured the one-room, historic schoolhouse and learned what students’ school days were like from 1880 until 1922. Men’s group to hold BBQ on Saturday
The Millstone Men of the Church will hold their annual barbecue Saturday, April 20, at the Millstone Community Building off Gibson Nursery Road in Ellerbe. Hamlet man shot dead in field
Scott Witten A man who authorities say is in the county illegally has been arrested in the shooting death of a Hamlet man. Uribe Morales Avalos, of Mexico, is accused of killing 26-year-old David Delon Hernadez, police said. Avalos is also charged with shooting Miquel Valencia Sanches of Laurinburg. A bill that would require applicants and recipients of the Work First Benefit program to take a drug test was moved to the Health Care Committee in the State Senate last week. Curtis Ingram of Hamlet has been named Mason of the Year by Poplar Hill Lodge 331 for his leadership in the community. Formerly of Rockingham, Ingram grew up in the Philadelphia community. He is 45, and is retired from the NC Department of Correction. On Friday, Ingram also received a plaque for outstanding service to the community.
