Hamlet gets a makeover
The City of Hamlet got a new look on Saturday thanks to CSX and City Year. About 90 volunteers helped build picnic tables, benches and garden boxes for the city. The volunteers also painted murals, including a mural at the local ball park, painted the caboose located at the entrance of the park and landscaped the area around the Hamlet City Lake. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office recently made the following arrests: • Melissa Kaye Field, 24, of Spivey Street, Rockingham was arrested and charged with larceny by employee. A Richmond County detention officer is behind bars after being arrested for providing crack cocaine to inmates, according to sheriff reports.
