A Rockingham native is back in town and has opened a law firm and hopes to promote young athletes in the area.

Bellonora F. McCallum is the founder and managing member of McCallum Enterprises, Inc., and McCallum Law Firm, PLLC. She specializes in Sports and Entertainment Law with an emphasis in financial management.

McCallum grew up in a close-knit family environment characterized by high morals and a focus on education and entrepreneurship. McCallum’s fondest memories include her grandmother’s home-cooked Sunday dinners followed by watching football with her family. It was during these football games where the men in her family would engage in heated debates thus imposing their knowledge of the game on McCallum and sparking her interest in sports. This interest morphed into a passion that ignited her chosen practice area.

“We’ve had a few NFL players come out of Richmond County,” said McCallum. “I would love to be a part of that. I want to make sure I’m out there for North Carolinians.”

McCallum earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and her Juris Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University. She has been a practicing attorney for four years and has also gained valuable years of experience in finance and accounting. Her coursework involved extensive research and work in accounting, business, and legal studies. Her work experience has entailed employment with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, Small Business Technical Development Center, and in the Financial Department of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Honeywell Corporation.

“Right now my practice is my main focus,” said McCallum. “I’ve been spending my everyday life in the courtroom.”

McCallum is also working with her cousin Timothy McCallum, the writer of six scripts which are being evaluated for the potential of turning into movies.

According to www.mccallumenterprise.com, Timothy McCallum graduated from T. W. Andrews High School in 1996. At this point, he derailed from his dream of writing and decided to obtain a higher education. In June 2004, Timothy resigned as Youth President and moved to Charlotte, N.C., to seek a college degree in communication. Though this may have been important some, his devotion in writing eventually took precedence. As time went by, he was once again reunited with two individuals that played a major role in his childhood as a friend and family, who happens to be the season four “American Idol” and Grammy award winner Fantasia Barrino and upcoming recording artist Aseelah Battles. Timothy desire as a writer had increasingly intensified once he and Fantasia collectively wrote a screenplay called “Cicely is Evil.” During the process of writing this melodrama, he also starred as a friend on Fantasia’s VH1 reality show, “Fantasia for Real.” Since then Timothy has written several scripts such as a romantic comedy “Buttons,” and “Nephew” which is based on a true story of a tragic loss of his nephew.
