Cruise on down to the Church of God of Prophecy on Saturday to enjoy a day full of cars, food and support for a great cause.
A car, truck and bike show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church parking lot, located at 615 Cheraw Highway 177 in Hamlet. Proceeds will benefit Back Pack Pals, a countywide outreach program that provides nutritional weekend meals and snacks to children whose primary source of food is the school cafeteria.
The event will be presented by Ernie’s Xtreme Motorsports, a professional car show service located in North Carolina.
“Ernie contacted me and said he’d like to do a car, bike and truck show,” said Steve Crews, pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy. “He said he’d like for the profits to go to the Back Pack Pals program, so we got together and set a date. This will be our first one, and we’re hoping it will do really well.”
According to Crews, the opportunity to raise money presented itself at a good time.
“The Back Pack Pals program is in the process of getting started with the school year, and funds are needed to purchase food for the backpacks,” he said. “There will be hot dogs, french fries and food being sold. There’s no admission fee, just come out and have a good time.”
Ernie Preslar, owner of Ernie’s Xtreme Motorsports, said he expects the show to do well.
“We’re hoping to have a very good selection of older cars, newer cars, trucks, bikes and more … It’s a good cause, and I enjoy doing it. I figured it was something I could do because I’ve been doing car shows for 19 years.”
A $25 registration fee is required to enter the show. Trophies will be awarded for Top 30 and Best in Show in a ceremony at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
