Richmond County Manager and Economic Developer Rick Sago introduced a new colleague at Monday’s monthly meeting of the Richmond County Board of Commissioners in Rockingham.
Martie Butler has been hired as Management Analyst and Economic Developer.
Butler worked for the N.C. Department of Commerce for five and a half years, as a Economic Developer in the Fayetteville Southeastern Regional Office, overseeing 11 counties, one of which was Richmond County. Butler earned her undergraduate degree from Campbell University, and her masters at Gardner-Webb University. She has also worked with the Southeast Economic Development Commission, where she met County Board Chairman Kenneth Robinette.
“Martie has been here for three weeks,” said Sago as he introduced her to the board. “We feel happy to have her here, she was well thought of by the state.”
“I’ve worked on Richmond County projects before and I’ve been really impressed with Richmond County,” said Butler. “I appreciate the confidence in bringing me here and I feel very grateful to be here.”
“Welcome aboard,” said Robinette. “We’re very pleased to have her. I know her from the Southeast, and she’s very professional.”
In other matters Monday, the board:
• Received an update from Planning and GIS Director James Armstrong, who said although he had no specific items to present the Planning Department is processing three structures for removal.
• Approved a request from Richmond County Sheriff James E. Clemmons Jr. to amend the budget and accept as well as appropriate funds from the Edward Byrne Assistance Grant, in the sum of $12,818, which the county isn’t required to match.
• Approved a request by Tax Administrator Vagas Jackson to authorize postponement of property revaluation.
• Got an update from Richmond Community College President Dale McInnis.
• Appointed John Hutchinson to the vacancy on the Richmond Community College Board of Trustees, left open by the late Hugh Lee. The seat will be occupied until July 1.
• Turned down an offer from the Board of Education for the Board of Commissioners to acquire surplus parking lot property across from Leak Street School in Rockingham at fair market value.
• Approved a request by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for support of 2013-2014 legislative goals.
