Small Farm Series coming to RCC

An upcoming series at Richmond Community College in Hamlet is entitled “New Strategies For Small Plot Vegetable Farming.”

This series is being offered by N.C. REAL and Richmond Community College. It is a series of six classes taught by Tony Kleese of Earthwise Company and addresses common challenges faced by new and transitioning farmers in the region.

The course covers growing crops for the organic and sustainable markets and it is designed to help participants by connecting them to new skills, community support and the development of a solid market-based growing plan. The series will be offered every Thursday starting Feb. 14 and ending on March 21.

Upon the conclusion of this series, RCC’S Small Business Center will offer the REAL Ag Entrepreneurship business-planning course. These set of seminars will be offered to assist individuals in the agriculture industry develop their business plan.

The “Small Plot Vegetable Farming” series will be offered through RCC and is open to the public. The cost of the class is $65. However, scholarships are available for individuals in Richmond, Scotland, Robeson, Columbus and Montgomery counties. The REAL Ag business-planning course offered through RCC’s Small Business Center will be a set of seven free seminars. These seminars will assist individuals interested in starting an ag-related business develop their business plan. To register for these seminars, contact Deborah Hardison at deborahh@richmondcc.edu or by calling 910-410-1687.

These two series are part of a grant awarded to N.C. REAL through the North American Development Bank (NAD BANK). N.C. REAL is a nonprofit organization that grows entrepreneurship in North Carolina by training teachers, supporting local entrepreneurship programs, and developing timely, hands-on entrepreneurial curriculum.
