Among a crowd of people, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson, for North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday to mark the opening of his office in Rockingham.
“I am very satisfied. It (the office) is on the main road and it’s not hard to find,” said William Maples III.
The office is located at 1015 Fayetteville Road, Rockingham.
Emily Tucker, president of the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce, called Hudson a rising star and told him she appreciates him choosing Rockingham for one of his offices.
Steve Morris, mayor of the City of Rockingham, welcomed Hudson home. “If we’re going to get better, we have to do it together,” he said.
Evans Sheppard, vice chairman of the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce, presented Hudson with a member plaque.
Hudson spoke about the work Congress still needs to do and how his Rockingham office is for the people. “This is your office,” he said, “Most of what I do is about helping the people.” Hudson said that his top three priorities are jobs, jobs and jobs.
The representative said there was never a question of having the office in Richmond County. He chose the building on Fayetteville Road because it is a larger facility. He said that Rockingham native Chris Maples, constituent relations manager, will be primarily the one working at the Rockingham office.
After a brief speech, Hudson walked out with 3-foot scissors and cut the ribbon, surrounded by officials and constituents.
He said he wanted to make sure everyone knows that the office is there to serve them and help them in any way.
Hudson’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. Assistance may be provided with matters involving Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Affairs, United States military, Internal Revenue Service, citizenship and immigration, Department of State, passport assistance, Home Loan Modification and the United States Postal Service. The phone number to the office is 910-997-2070.
