New developments have been released in the criminal case against 39-year-old Julius Juan Lilly, who police say killed 4-year-old Reba Lynn Marie Ryan of Ellerbe last week.

According to authorities, Lilly was arrested on Friday morning after lawmen received a call that the child had been murdered at a residence on Ledbetter Road in Ellerbe.

Richmond County Sheriff James Clemmons Jr. said on Monday afternoon that Lilly’s charges have been increased from the open murder charge he faced on Friday.

“As of today, they approached the grand jury and got a true bill of indictment for first degree murder and felony child abuse with serious bodily injury,” the sheriff said.

He also confirmed that Lilly was a “live-in boyfriend” of the child’s mother.

“Our case is still ongoing,” Clemmons said. “We have received an opinion from the autopsy (as to cause of death) … ,” the sheriff said, but he did not elaborate. Clemmons said details of the death will not be released until autopsy results are “received by the D.A.”

Lilly remained in custody on Monday afternoon, held without bond. Records of the N.C. Department of Correction show Lilly has a criminal history and has spent time in state prison.

According to her obituary, handled by Pugh Funeral Home, Reba “loved playing outside, country music, playing spoons, her dog Taz, and her mama and daddy. She also loved to dance and she loved her grandparents.”

This is just a bad and sad situation...why would a mother leave her child home with another man besides the father..(hell sometimes not even the real father)There had to be some kind of signs of anger in that man. This cant be the first time he hit one of them..(her r her child). When ur dating someone its up to u to check their background and u should especially check it when ur a single mom..Women look for love in all the wrong places and in the long run it hurts then and sometimes their kids...Single mom wise up to whats going on in this world and stop jumping on any and every man just to find comfort..U may be dealing with a murderer a theif or anything..Women just be more wiser to who you have around ur kids...the company u keep may have other intentions..This is really a shame that someone would do that to a child....hope he get all he deserves for doing a crime of hate like that.......

Boy, the Daily Journal sure is doing this guy a favor by merely saying he has a criminal history and has spent time in prison. After checking out the Dept. of Corrections website,(which is available to anyone seeking information and 100% free), this guy has an EXTENSIVE, VIOLENT, criminal history encompassing almost all of his adult life.

I hate to be the one to say it, but I think the mother should be charged with something as well. If I were the child's father, I'd be at the prosecutor's office raising hell. A parent has a responsibility to protect their children from someone like this. When they fail in that responsibility they should be punished. With all the free investigative resources available to someone today, there is just no excuse for knowingly having someone like this in your home with your kids.

I'm the grandmother (the fathers mom) and I'm with u 100% the mother had kept the child from us for the last 4 months she wouldn't take our calls or answer any messages from us. I so hope she is punished for this crime. We will never get our little angel back but justic should be ours.
