If you’ve been wondering how you can help victims of tornado devastation in Oklahoma, you can do so by assisting the local Red Cross.
The Red Cross is helping people affected by the tornadoes in the Midwest, by providing food, shelter, supplies and hope. Richmond and Moore counties share a Red Cross branch, which is located in Southern Pines. They have begun the “Moore for Moore Campaign” to assist tornado victims in Oklahoma.
Agencies, churches, corporations and individuals interested in helping can contribute to Red Cross Disaster Relief by making a donation to the American Red Cross through one of four methods; online at Redcross.org, by phone at 800-RED-CROSS (733-2767)or you can send a text message containing “REDCROSS” to 90999; or you can send a check to 115 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
Donors should be sure to designate financial donations to “Disaster Relief.”
“Moore County residents feel a personal connection to those in Oklahoma, and the support has been overwhelming,” said Cynthia Bradley, the Moore County Red Cross executive director. “Monetary donations are the best way to help the recovery effort, as the Red Cross sends volunteers, supplies, and food to care for the people affected by these storms, across the Midwest.”
Moore, a small suburb of Oklahoma City, experienced winds in excess of 200 mph, cutting a 22-mile path of destruction that decimated homes, schools, businesses and an area hospital. One of the deadliest tornadoes on record, the storm has left hundreds injured, and homeless. Thousands have been affected throughout the Midwest as a result of recent storms.
Moore County residents trained in disaster relief may be mobilized to support those on the ground, knowing spring storms continue to be a threat.
“Our thoughts, prayers and concerns are with the victims of this terrible tragedy,” said Bradley. “We are humbled by the community’s immediate support, and urge everyone to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief.”
