A local boy will now see his drawing on the uniforms of one first responder agency and on the trucks of another in Rockingham.
Edward Causey II, 15, drew a patch for the Northside Fire Department uniforms and a truck decal for the Rockingham Fire and Rescue.
Causey, also known as “Lil’ E,” attends Ninth Grade Academy, participates in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program and is a Junior Firefighter with the Northside Fire Department.
Michelle Causey, Edwards mom, said he originally drew a patch for Northside and Rockingham Rescue personnel liked the patch so much they asked Edward to draw them a truck decal.
“I just like drawing,” Edward said.
“I decided to do it because we didn’t really have a patch and I thought we should have a patch,” he said.
Michelle said she and her husband, Edward Causey, Fire Chief at Northside, have always told Lil’ E that he can do anything he puts his mind to.
“He’s just a great kid. We don’t have any problems out of him,” Michelle said. She said he has a good head on his shoulders.
The truck the decal is on was a retired animal control vehicle that was given to Rockingham Rescue by the County Commissioners. “It was greatly needed and it is greatly appreciated,” said Mike Stokes, Captain of the rescue squad.
Stokes said he wanted to extend a special thank-you to the County Commissioners for the truck and also to Ricky Bostick for the printing and lettering on the side of the truck.
He said he decided to use the patch because it “… looked great. It’s something different.”
The rescue squad is trying to get children interested in the program and Stokes said he was impressed that Causey drew the patch on his own time.
Edward said it feels “pretty good” to see the decal he drew on the side of the rescue trucks.
