Buddy Roe’s fourth annual bike ride for Richmond County Special Olympics will take place on Saturday, May 4.
Buddy Robuck, owner of Buddy Roe’s, holds the event every year to honor his niece, Lisa Horner, who is an active participant in the Special Olympics.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Buddy Roe’s, located at 188 Billy Covington Road, Rockingham. Kickstands will go up and riders will take off around a scenic drive towards Castle Park at 1 p.m.
Becky Cody, manager of Buddy Roe’s, said they have raised $3,200 so far and are hoping to raise more money.
The cost is $15 for single riders and $20 for double riders. There is also a single package, which costs $30 and consists of a single rider, one T-shirt and 10 50/50 tickets, and a double package, which costs $45 and includes double riders, two T-shirts and 10 50/50 tickets. Barbecue plates will be included for riders.
The barbecue plates will also be sold to anyone wishing to enjoy a meal. There will be a choice of BBQ chicken or pork, and plates will be sold for $7 each. Plates can be delivered if five or more are ordered. There will also be an auction, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.
All of the proceeds will go to the Richmond County Special Olympics.
“These people are special, they need all the help they can get,” Cody said.
If it rains on Saturday, the event will take place on Sunday, May 5.
