The North Carolina State Highway Patrol announced a new addition to its team on Thursday.
Trooper Chance Lindley, 24, is the newest member to join the State Highway Patrol in Richmond County.
Lindley graduated on March 1 after 16 weeks of academic and physical training from the Highway Patrol Basic School in Raleigh.
Once graduated, troopers are dispersed among nine different troops throughout the state. Each troop consists of differing amounts of districts. Lindley is assigned to Troop H District 2 which are Richmond and Scotland County.
The class Lindley was in is the 130th class that has graduated from the Highway Patrol Basic School.
Lindley is originally from Indian Trail and graduated from Piedmont High School. He then attended Appalachian State University, where he graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and a minor in Business. He said he completed an internship with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and decided he wanted to join the highway patrol. He said he likes the investigating aspect of the job.
For eight weeks, Trooper Lindley will be receiving hands-on training from his Field Training Officer, Jeff Edwards.
Edwards will ride in the car with the new recruit and provide him with much needed hands-on training he did not receive in the classroom.
After the field training is complete, Trooper Lindley will be released to patrol by himself.
“He is a great asset and he will be a good trooper for Richmond County,” said Edwards.
Lindley said he likes fishing and snow boarding. He said that was the main reason he attended Appalachian State University.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the people in the community,” Lindley said.
