Students at Rohanen Middle School received a surprise on Thursday morning when a water main at the school was broken.
“When we got there, we found that we had no water,” said Superintendent George Norris. “Associate Superintendent Dr. (Robert) Beck was told that it would take approximately four hours to fix, so rather than sending those kids home, we bussed our 8th graders to Hamlet, our 7th graders to Rockingham and our 6th graders to Cordova School and asked those principals to help accommodate the Rohanen kids.”
The superintendent said there are only about 305 students at Rohanen, so the moves would only put a little more than 100 children at each new site.
Parents and guardians have been alerted to the change, and lunch will be served to all of the students at their temporary schools. Norris said pickup will not be affected for car-riders and walkers at Rohanen Middle School.
“We’re going to take (students) back and dismiss them from Rohanen as we normally do,” he said.
