Alex Maples, 15, of Rockingham, received the rank of Eagle Scout on April 8.
Maples is the son of Chris and Toni Maples and attends Marlboro Academy in Bennettsville.
Maples has been an active member of Troop 527 sponsored by Fellowship United Methodist Church in Hamlet for four years. He went through all the ranks to achieve Eagle Scout with this troop. He has served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and now Jr. Assistant Scoutmaster.
He has worked on several community service projects which consisted of cleaning the train depot in Hamlet, assisting at the Festival of Trees in Southern Pines, yard work for the elderly, working at the Seaboard Festival, serving meals at the soup kitchen and helping other scouts with their service projects to help them achieve their Eagle Scout Rank.
