The Civitan Club will hold its annual breakfast which will benefit local charities next week.
Scholarships, Our Daily Bread, Samaritan Colony, Richmond Community Theatre and Richmond County Special Olympics are only a few of the charities that benefit from Civitan donations, according to Civitan members.
The breakfast will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham from 6 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. The breakfast costs $7 and is all-you-can-eat: bacon, sausage, grits, pancakes, eggs, toast, juice, milk and coffee. Carry-out is also available.
“Please come out and enjoy a good meal,” said Richard Martin, Civitan member. “It’s a good chance to socialize and make new friends and you’ll be helping the community.”
Civitan holds two breakfasts a year to garner donations for charities. Working through their clubs, Civitan seek out community needs and then work to fulfill them. Projects are selected at the local club level — each club determines its own projects and programs of work. This way each club is uniquely responsive to the community.
Civitan places major emphasis on projects which assist people with developmental disabilities. A majority of Civitan clubs assist young people through the sponsorship of Junior Civitan clubs, youth seminars, scouting and other youth-oriented programs.
According to Martin, the Civitan club will be 90 years old next December.
