More than 100 North Carolina Baptist ministers of music, church music directors, accompanists and other church musicians from across North Carolina are getting together for an evening of music.
First Baptist Church of Rockingham will be filled with sounds at 6:30 p.m. on Monday as the North Carolina Baptist Singers & Orchestra will perform a special concert with the theme, “All Creation Sings.”
This group is under the direction of Andy Rob, minister of music at First Baptist Church in Shelby and a faculty member at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs.
The group was originally formed more than 30 years ago as the Singing Churchmen. The group was renamed the North Carolina Baptist Singers & Orchestra as more women became music leaders in their churches and joined the group. The group is associated with the Baptist State Convention and the majority of the members are from Baptist churches.
Members attend a fall retreat, which serves as the group’s primary rehearsal before beginning a concert series in October and ending in May. The group performs music ranging from traditional hymns to contemporary songs.
There is no charge for admission to the Monday concert and childcare will be provided. First Baptist Church of Rockingham is located at 201 Randolph Street.
