Farm-City Week is just around the corner, and the 2012 Farm-City Week Planning Committee will request a resolution to designate Nov. 17-20 as Farm-City Week in Richmond County from the Richmond County Board of Commissioners.
The celebration events will include the Farmer’s Parade in Ellerbe on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m., Farmer’s Luncheon at the Ag Service Center in Rockingham, Nov. 19 at noon, a Farm-City Banquet at the Cole Auditorium on the RCC campus on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. According to the committee, this year’s theme is “Exploring Richmond County! — We Need Each Other.”
The county board will meet on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers in the County Administrative Building at 125 S. Hancock St., Rockingham.
In other matters, the board is expected to:
• Take a moment to recognize Commissioner Peggy Covington for her years of service on the board and to thank her for her contributions during her tenure.
• Hold a public hearing by Emergency Services to seek comments from citizens regarding the renaming of a section of John O. McDonald Road off of Graham Bridge Road as “Cabin Cove Road.”
• Hold a second public hearing to name a new road as “Rockingham Roofing Road.”
• Review a request by the Emergency Services to approve insurance districts for Northside Fire Department.
• Consider appointments to the Fire Department’s Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board. Each year, Richmond County Finance Department must submit names of the members who serve on each local board. Two members of each board must be appointed by the board of commissioners.
• Hear a presentation by GIS and Planning Director James Armstrong, who will discuss demolitions.
• Designate Nov. 12 as a legal holiday in honor of Veterans Day.
• Accept a grant of $18,338 from the Help America Vote Act to be used to make polling places more accessible to the disabled. There is no county match required.
• Review a request by Public Works Director Bryan Land for authorization to transfer a 2005 Ford Ranger from the Water Administration Department to the Solid Waste Department.
• Consider a bid award for the Contract Number 2, for Pump Station Relocation associated with the N.C. Department of Transportation project for U.S. Highway 220 Bypass waterline relocation. The lowest bidder was Devere Construction Company of Alpena, Mich., at a cost of $769,884.
• Review a request for financing proposals solicited for the purchases of equipment and rolling stock budgeted for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The amount to be financed is $969,400. The low bid proposal was submitted by Bank of America which included a 1.5413 percent interest rate and a semi-annual payment of $101,023.
• Appoint Bunny Critcher of the Department of Social Services to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
• Appoint Environmental Health Supervisor Holly Haire to the Humane Society Board.
