Richmond Community Theatre’s next play features the life of a set of dining room furniture and the families that own it over the course of time.

Written in the early 1980s by playwright A.R. Gurney, the play shows 18 different scenes that intertwine and overlap as characters over time interact with each other. The play makes fun of the characters, as well as white Anglo-Saxon protestants, or WASPS.

The production runs April 25-28 and May 2, 4, 5. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., and Sundays are at 2 p.m. The theatre will be dark on May 3.

“We will not have a performance, to honor the Richmond County Relay for Life event,” said Theatre Director Shelly Walker.

Box office hours are Monday through Saturday 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. All tickets are $10. You can purchase your tickets in person at the box office during those hours, or the box office is also open one hour before show time.

This play features a large cast and includes a wide age range. Krystal-Ann West, 25, will play multiple roles.

“This is my second play at Richmond, but overall I have been in numerous productions since the age of 13,” said West. “I have two different roles. I am a part of a sibling pair who both want to get the dining room set, and I also play a maid who is getting ready to leave her long time job. My characters are very different from who I am. I’m not one for arguing if I can help it.”

The play shows the follies of family life, and will have something to entertain anyone who attends.

“I think people of all ages are going to be able to enjoy the different dynamics of each character and each situation,” said West. “They will be able to relate in some way, shape or form.”

Benefactors, sponsors and patrons of the theatre, call any time during box office hours to reserve seats for the performance that you’d like to attend, or come and pick up your tickets.

“If you are not a financial sponsor of the theatre and would like to call and make a reservation in advance, call during the box office hours,” said Walker. “Then come pick up your ticket at any time during the day prior to the performance of your reservation, or make sure that you arrive 30 minutes prior to the show of your reservation. All unpaid reservations are forfeited 15 minutes prior to each performance to allow walk up theatre patrons to purchase them in the event of a sold out show.”

Walker and the theatre crew have been preparing for a big crowd.

“We are anticipating large audiences for this production since we have 21 people in the cast,” said Walker. “It is very likely that you may know one of the actors.”

In the cast are Cameron Anderson, Faith Baxley, Meagan Bellamy, Tripp Brigman, Chris Crawford, Stephanie Crawford, Amber Crowe, Merrie Dawkins, Michael DeMay, Alvin Goins, Hailey Goodwin, Anthony Kubiak, Jenna McRae, Taylor Nichols, Clarissa (Missy) Reynolds, Angie Rush, Jackson Schuman, Theressa Smith, Ryan Taylor, Krystal-Ann West, Walt Wood.
