North Carolina House Minority Leader Joe Hackney will visit Richmond County to be the keynote speaker at the Richmond County Democratic Party’s annual Morrison-Deane-Goodman dinner on Oct. 18.
The dinner and rally will begin at 6 p.m. at Browder Park in Rockingham. Dinner tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Democratic Party Election Headquarters in Richmond Plaza Shopping Center.
Currently serving his 15th term, Hackney has also served as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, House Democratic Leader, House Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tempore. During his tenure, Representative Hackney has been one of the General Assembly’s leading advocates for openness in government and champions ethics and lobbying reform.
The Morrison-Deane-Goodman dinner is held annually to honor the memory of three outstanding Democrats from Richmond County; Cameron Morrison, former Governor and U.S. Senator; C.B. Dean, former Congressman and early advocate for civil rights reform in the 1950s; and R.W. Goodman, longest-serving elected Sheriff in North Carolina and political patron for more than six decades.
The Democratic Party chair Jane Layton said, “This year’s dinner and rally will mark the beginning of early voting. A number of local, state and congressional Democratic candidates and elected officials are expected to be in attendance and will also be given the chance to speak with the crowd.”
