Barbara Lindsey of Rockingham has published two books on her walk with the Lord that she feels will help others.

Lindsey shares her testimony in her books “Yielding your will totally to God” and “Jesus, Lover of my Soul - Withdrawal Symptoms.” In her books she dissects Bible scripture and explains how it applied to her life and what she has learned.

“What I say is, God wrote the book and gave it to me,” said Lindsey. “I didn’t know I had any talent. I asked the Lord; he said I could write a book.”

Lindsey said she felt capable of writing a book after completing her Masters thesis and filling many notebooks with revelations she felt led to by God.

“I am excited about this book,” said Lindsey about her newly published work, “Jesus, Lover of my Soul.”

“This is a book on teaching more about our creator,” she said. “I have seen a lot of things and confronted a lot of issues in life. These are the things God has taught me in my walk with him these 34 years. I know it will help people.”

Lindsey said she still comes home and reads her own books. She said for her second book, she wanted to focus on how people can find their talent. She believes no one is without purpose or talent, and that God created each person for a reason. According to Lindsey, it took almost half her life for her to find her talents and her calling. She spent her younger years having seizures, which prevented her from driving a car and doing other things many enjoy and often take for granted.

“God healed me of seizures,” said Lindsey. “It was such a relief. People don’t know how blessed they are to be able to help themselves. Even if they are disabled, there are things God put there for them to use.”

Once Lindsey was able to get a driver’s licence and her first car, an Oldsmobile 440, she went back to school at Richmond Community College and earned a degree in Human Services. After that, she went to Bible college.

“God has brought me a mighty long way,” she said. “Just to work a job was exciting to me.”

Lindsey devoted her career to helping others who are struggling through ministry.

In her book, Lindsey talks about the struggles a newly reborn Christian confronts. She explains that it is normal to struggle, and that newly reborn Christians need to know that others, even those in ministry, have struggled. She wrote about how a newly reborn Christian can deal with feelings of temptation.

“Remember, temptation is not a sin,” she said. “Giving in to temptation is a sin.”

Lindsey’s books are $15 a piece and she is working on printing more and publishing a third book. She hopes to hold a book signing event soon and said she has had great support from the community.

“God wants people to know him,” she said. “There’s nothing we can’t do when we find out our talent. Everyone has a talent God put there to bless others. He’s doing the whole thing, and we’re his hands on this earth.”
