Spend Halloween at the Jive Hive this year, listening to live music while giving back to the community.
Godsent Angels Charity of Moore County will benefit from the price of admission: Your donation of a non-perishable food item or toy for someone in need.
The Halloween Party will be held at Laughing Place Farm, 2151 Vass Carthage Road in Carthage, where North Carolina country and a Sandhills music tradition meet. The party begins 7 p.m.
The Jive Hive, a remodeled barn, brings many musicians to the stage as they tour North Carolina year-round, including the festival-favorite Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band and Grammy-winning David Mayfield Parade.
Jonathan Rachels, party host and musician, is from Richmond County and spent his childhood years growing up around Rockingham. He said he loves both counties and wants to give back to the communities that raised him.
Rachels, owner of Laughing Place Farm, built a stage in his barn after his wife had enough of his band’s jam sessions. He and his friends liked the barn’s acoustics much better, and other musicians soon joined, bringing audiences. Several bands have formed there since 2010 including 15-Minute Freakshow, Positive Friction and Dirt Road Senate.
“We love to support local music,” said Rachels, during the Jive Hive’s regular Wednesday night live sessions. The Jive Hive features a different band every Wednesday, with jam sessions open to anyone during set breaks.“We provide a venue for local and regional talent, with a family atmosphere.”
Born out of community spirit, the Jive Hive was built by volunteers using donations and continues to operate that way.
“We needed a cause out here and Godsent Angels is a good local charity to help out,” said Rachels. “GodSent Angels will be here (at the party). GodSent Angels Mission has been awarded the 2012 North Carolina Governor Award and does amazing work for the homeless in Moore County. We will have a drop off for Toys, and food. Please help these local families and their children have a very merry Christmas this year. The price of admission to the party is either a toy or some can food. Any type of donation is welcome.”
