A high speed chase that began in Hamlet and ended in Laurinburg resulted in an arrest Wednesday night, police said.
Jason Dale Langley, 34, of Red Springs, was arrested and charged with fleeing to elude arrest after he failed to stop when a Hamlet Police officer attempted to pull him over, according to police.
The incident began when the Hamlet Police Department received a call about a disturbance at 122 Hamlet Avenue at 6:30 p.m., according to Capt. Rodney Tucker. The caller stated a weapon was involved, Tucker said.
When the officer reached the scene, the suspect had already left but was seen driving by shortly thereafter, Tucker said.
The officer along with three other Hamlet Police officers followed Langley who did not stop. According to Tucker, Langley sped until he reached Laurinburg, at which point the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and Laurinburg Police Department became involved. Tucker said Stop Sticks were set out on the roadway and caused Langley’s vehicle to stop at the Highway 74/Hylan Road overpass.
According to Tucker, no weapons were found on Langley or in his vehicle. Langley told officers his reason for not stopping was that he was drunk, but Langley did not blow over the legal limit when tested for alcohol, police said.
Tucker said Langley was taken into custody and placed under a $25,000 bond, which has since been posted.
