Dunham’s Sports heads to Rockingham
by Mallory Brown
Richmond County Daily Journal

Dunham’s Sports, a popular name in sporting goods, will soon open its doors to Richmond County, just in time for the winter season.

The store has announced its projected opening date for the first weekend in December in the Pineridge Crossing shopping center in Rockingham, near the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet on East Broad Avenue.

“Rockingham is a market that fits well into Dunham’s growth strategy,” said Tom Lemere, director of advertising for Dunham’s Sports. “Rockingham and the surrounding area have a great group of sports enthusiasts covering the categories we sell.”

According to Lemere, the store will carry a full line of sporting goods for baseball/softball, football, soccer, basketball, bikes, water sports, kayaks and canoes.

“A few of our larger areas include the Fairway Golf Center carries all the top brands like Taylormade, Callaway, Nike, and Titleist,” he said. “The hunting department has all the big names like Remington, Mosseburg, Bushnell, Barnett and more. You will find Nike, Under Armour, Reebok, Adidas, Columbia, Carhartt in our large footwear and apparel departments. The exercise department carries everything you need for a fantastic home gym with names like Pro-Form, Everlast, Horizon Fitness, Marcy and many, many more.”

The new store will also bring 30 to 40 new jobs to the county, Lemere said.

“We are excited about being able to open a store in Rockingham to serve the sporting goods needs of the area,” he added.

Rockingham City Manager Monty Crump called the business a positive addition.

“That whole shopping center is undergoing a thorough revitalization,” he said. “I think it’s an excellent sign that our shopping centers are being filled back in with businesses … That creates jobs, (taxes), and provides traffic to the community. It’s all really positive news.”

He added that other businesses have expressed their interest in placing stores around the new location.

“We’ve got several good things going on with that shopping center,” Crump said. “We’re very fortunate, and I think it says a lot about the community bringing those shops back.”
