The first “Remarkable Senior Ladies Appreciation Dinner” was held recently at the Dobbins Heights Community Center. The purpose of the event was to honor the influence of the “Mothers of our communities,” said organizer JF Quick of Hamlet.

The ladies recognized by the celebration are “just a very few of the ladies who have had a great impact on many lives for countless years,” he said. The ladies are locals of the county. Some of the women who were honored attended from various areas such as Rockingham, Hamlet and Ellerbe. Ruth Brown was also given recognition for being the eldest at 100 years old.

The vision of the ceremony was entrusted to the hands of Quick, and was an opportunity to simply say “thanks.” Quick is an evangelist and community worker known for his love of children and the elderly. Quick plans to travel to Ghana, in West Africa, this year to pray with the young and elderly natives there.

“I desire to show everyone that I ever come in contact with that they are special and that they are loved both by God and I,” Quick said. “This, to me, starts with those who have already walked the path in life that we too, as the younger generation, must walk. There is so much work for God to do. I call it ‘love work.’ God is love; you can’t effectively work for him without love.”
