The Rockingham Wesleyan Church welcomes a new pastor, Reverend David Rollins and his wife, Tamra from High Point.
The Rockingham Wesleyan Church is located at 618 N. Lee St., in Rockingham.
Rollins served other Wesleyan churches for 25 years. He received his B.A. from High Point University and his Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.
“We are very pleased with him,” said church member Norma Martin. “I think he’s going to make us a very fine pastor.”
Martin’s husband Johnny Martin is on the church’s board. He agrees with his wife.
“I think he’s a fine individual and he comes with good credentials and recommendations,” said Johnny Martin. “He might bring a fresh new outlook to be able to reach people in the service area we have not been able to reach in the past.”
Rollins said he is grateful for the opportunity.
“We’re thankful there was an answer to our prayers,” said Rollins. “We were looking for an open door. I’m excited about being back in ministry at a new church.”
Rollins said he is getting to know Richmond County. He still lives in High Point, and will commute until he moves to Richmond County.
“Like other vacationers, we’ve passed through many times but didn’t know that much about the area,” said Rollins. “We are learning about it now.”
“He’s been handling everything long-distance,” said Norma Martin. “(His wife) has been by his side the whole time.”
“It’s key to have her support,” said Rollins. “And that means a lot. I’m thankful for that. It takes a team to accomplish things together and we’ve been through so much, especially this past year.”
Rollins said his main goal for the Rockingham Wesleyan Church is growth.
“I would like to see growth of the church in every aspect of its ministry,” he said. “A lifting of the overall health of the church would improve it.”
