Our Daily Bread Christian Food Ministry, Inc. received $2,000 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation on Monday to help local residents.
“Food Lion has always been sensitive regarding those in need in this community and has supported our efforts to help the indigent in this area,” said Debbie Rohleder, agency director.
Our Daily Bread will use the gift to purchase non-perishable food products for the less fortunate of Richmond County.
“This gift will purchase food items such as dry beans, rice and/or canned goods to enable families to get by from month to month,” she said.
Rohleder said that Daily Bread serves more than 600 families a month, which equals to a total of 1,450 to 1,500 individuals being assisted. More 500 of these people are children ranging in age from one to 18 years of age.
“Our Daily Bread is fortunate that Food Lion #930, located on Broad Street, assists our efforts to feed the needy of this county. The managerial staff and employees care for the people they serve and regard their clients as friends by giving great service and greater smiles,” Rohleder said.
Rohleder said that Food Lion and Our Daily Bread have been working together for about nine years and this is the second time Food Lion has given money to the charity. She also said Food Lion lets the charity pick up food and distribute it to needy families.
