TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona warmed up for its showdown with No. 3 Oregon by rolling past South Carolina State 56-0.

Matt Scott had 349 total yards of offense and four touchdowns for the 22nd-ranked Wildcats. Scott threw for 288 yards and three scores on a 30-for-36 passing night.

Arizona (3-0) led 28-0 at halftime and set a school record by recording 43 first downs in the contest.

The Bulldogs (1-2) were limited to 154 yards of offense and were shutout for the first time in four years.

Former Richmond Senior defensive lineman Andrew Carter was credited with three tackles for South Carolina State, including one for a loss. Another former Richmond defensive lineman Antoine Crouch recorded a tackle for the Bulldogs. Derrick Wiley and Tedarius Wiley were not listed as playing in the contest according to the participation sheet.

FLORIDA STATE 52, WAKE FOREST 0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Chris Thompson scored on runs of 74 and 80 yards on back-to-back carries to pace Florida State to a 52-0 victory over Wake Forest.

The Seminoles, which moved up to No. 4 in the latest Associated Press poll, avenged last season’s 35-30 loss to the Demon Deacons. Florida State (3-0, 1-0) will travel to face No. 10 Clemson Saturday in an ACC Atlantic Division contest.

Wake Forest (2-1, 1-1) was limited to 126 yards of offense in the defeat.

Former Richmond Senior standout Justin Jackson recorded three tackles for the Demon Deacons.

Wake Forest will play host to Army at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in a Military Appreciation Day contest.

VANDERBILT 58, PRESBYTERIAN 0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Zac Stacy ran for 174 yards and a score on eight carries as Vanderbilt blanked Presbyterian 58-0 to win for the first time this season.

Presbyterian had a chance to break into the scoring column late in the second quarter. The Commodores were flagged for holding, which negated a blocked punt and the Blue Hose converted the fourth-and-2 to continue the drive. Presbyterian moved the ball to the Vanderbilt 5 before Trey Wilson intercepted a Tamyn Garrick pass in the end zone and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown.

Former Richmond lineman Dakota Truett was not listed on the participation sheet for the Blue Hose.

Presbyterian will return to Bailey Stadium to take on Furman at noon Saturday.

WOFFORD 49, WESTERN CAROLINA 20

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Eric Breitenstein rushed for 160 yards on 18 attempts and Wofford finished with 590 on the ground in a 49-20 win over Western Carolina.

After being tied at 7 in the first quarter, the Terriers (3-0) exploded for 28 points in the second quarter. Wofford had three players rush for more than 100 yards in the contest. Besides Breitenstein, Michael Weimer ran for 141 yards on six touches and Donovan Johnson added 126 yards on 13 carries.

Wofford extended its winning streak to seven against Western Carolina.

Former Richmond Senior linebacker Phillip LeGrande was credited with four tackles, including one for a loss in the victory. LeGrande added a pass breakup.

The Terriers will not return to the gridiron until 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29 when they travel to face Elon.

THE CITADEL 52, APPALACHIAN STATE 28

BOONE — The Citadel scored 38 first-half points to breeze to a 52-28 win over Appalachian State in a Southern Conference contest.

The Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) racked up 618 yards of total offense to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Mountaineers. The loss also ended Appalachian State’s 18-game regular-season home winning streak.

The Citadel had three players gained more than 100 yards on the ground — Ben Dupree had 180 yards and two TDs, Darien Robinson 113 and one score and Rickey Anderson 102 and a TD.

Former Richmond Senior offensive lineman Alex Coulthard was listed as playing, while Andy Shuler was not included on the participation sheet for the Mountaineers.

Appalachian State (1-2, 0-1) will hit the road to take on SoCon rival Chattanooga at 6 p.m. Saturday.

NEWBERRY 35, CATAWBA 28

NEWBERRY, S.C. — Newberry rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to remain undefeated on the season with a 35-28 victory over Catawba.

The Wolves scored the game’s final 21 points to pull away from the Indians. Catawba falls to 2-1 on year and 0-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Former Richmond Senior offensive lineman Andrew Parsons started at left guard for the Indians, which racked up 291 yards of total offense in the loss.

Catawba will return to action 7 p.m. Saturday when Tusculum visits Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field.

OLD DOMINION 70, CAMPBELL 14

NORFOLK, Va. — Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke threw for seven touchdowns and rushed for another to pace the Monarchs to a 70-14 win over Campbell.

Heinicke finished the contest 21 of 29 for 486 yards and ran for 41 yards on eight attempts as Old Dominion set a school mark for points in a game. The Monarchs (3-0) led the Fighting Camels 28-0 after the first quarter.

Campbell (1-2) finished the contest with 270 yards of total offense, while Old Dominion racked up 782 yards.

Corey Smart, a former Richmond Senior offensive lineman, was not listed as playing in the game according to the participation sheet.

The Fighting Camels will head to Indianapolis to take on Butler at noon Saturday.

UNC PEMBROKE 49, WINGATE 35

WINGATE — The University of North Carolina at Pembroke forced nine turnovers, including a school record seven interceptions, to rally for a 49-35 victory over Wingate.

The Braves (2-1) scored the game’s last 21 points in the final 14:03 to snap a two-game losing streak to the Bulldogs (1-2).

Former Richmond Senior standout L.J. Stroman recorded four tackles and had an interception in the contest for UNCP. John Rich, another ex-Raider, grabbed two catches for 10 yards in the victory. Former Richmond offensive lineman Justin Watts was listed as seeing game action for the Braves on the participation sheet.

The Braves will travel to face Virginia-Lynchburg at 1 p.m. Saturday.

FAYETTEVILLE STATE 28, VIRGINIA UNION 17

FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville State scored the game’s final 14 points to rally from a three-point deficit to claim its first win of the season.

Andre Montgomery had a 1-yard run to put the Broncos up for good midway through the fourth quarter and Colon Bailey added a 15-yard dash to ice the 28-17 victory.

Former Richmond Senior offensive lineman Kevin Alfonso started at guard for Fayetteville State, which rushed for 131 yards in the contest and had another 164 in the air. Another ex-Richmond player, Chris Diggs, was not listed as playing on the participation sheet.

Fayetteville State (1-2) will play host to CIAA foe Elizabeth City State at 6 p.m. Saturday.

SALISBURY 69, N.C. WESLEYAN 6

SALISBURY, Md. — Salisbury forced five turnovers and limited North Carolina Wesleyan to 204 yards of total offense to cruise to a 69-6 victory.

The Seagulls rolled up 439 yards of total offense and built a 49-0 advantage at halftime.

Former Richmond Senior quarterback Laron Ellerbe was 7 of 12 for 58 yards and an interception in the loss. Ellerbe rushed 15 times for minus 47 yards.

The Battling Bishops (1-2) will not return to action until 1 p.m. Sept. 29 when they travel to face LaGrange College in an USA South Conference clash.
