Dear Editor,
Thank you, Dawn M. Kurry, for the interesting article in the Richmond County Daily Journal Weekender Dec. 22-23, 2012 under the headline — “NRA says arm teachers to protect students.”
In my opinion, two items stood out. First, a more appropriate headline would read, “Unarmed teachers killed trying to protect students.”
The second was the irrational rant provided by billionaire New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, lambasting the NRA proposal to use trained, armed, security to protect students and teachers wherever local school districts thought appropriate. Had the Mayor not been surrounded by his staff of fully armed and trained personal bodyguards, in addition to a wall of police protection from New York’s Finest, his remarks might seem to come from a position of thoughtful wisdom and less from political correctness.
Respectfully,

We, all of us, better start paying closer attention when we suspect that something is not right and contact the authorities.
Mental health people have also taken nuts too lightly or not serious, if you hear a threat of any type against anyone call sheriff Clemmons, he takes it serious.
This job is for the whole community not just for over-burdened law enforcement officers, you don`t mind calling them when you lock your keys in your car and they come promptly, don`t you think they would do the same to protect all of us, especially our children.

You have hit the preverbial nail on the head, there are qualifed teachers that could be armed and protective in situations that require anti violemce reaction that might stop someone intent on harming our children and these liberal wimps need to withdraw into their nests.
thank you for saying what 90% of us parents and grand parents feel.
