Sanctity of Human Life

Dear Editor,

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation establishing a National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. SOHLS is held on the Sunday in January closet to the day on which the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion was handed down by the U. S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973. Since then, 50 million defenseless and voiceless human beings have been legally terminated in their mothers’ womb. George Orwell called it “political language,” which he said “is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” No matter if we use the words such as “rights” or “women’s health” it does not negate the right of the other person directly affected in the abortion transaction — namely the fetus. So just in case there is any compassion left in us for these precious unborn lives, terms such as “lump of tissue” have been added to negate the possibility that there really is life at conception. However, with the development of newer technology such as 4D ultrasounds, reality is changing the minds of more Americans. The January 14th edition of Time magazine’s cover story read, “40 YEARS AGO, ABORTION RIGHTS ACTIVIST WON AN EPIC VICTORY WITH ROE V. WADE…THEY’VE BEEN LOSING EVER SINCE.” In 2012, 43 pro-life provisions went into effect in 19 states, the second highest number after states enacted 92 pro-life laws in 2011. Our hearts break for the 85 percent of women who report regretting their abortion. (Life News 11-3-09) We salute their braveness in revealing their struggle so that others can avoid the loss and pain. We grieve with the forgotten father who Roe v. Wade left powerless to defend the life of his child. We must unapologetically stand together until all human life is protected; and lies replaced with truth.

Bonnie, So good to hear from you. I don't pretend to know what motivates someone to have a child out of wedlock but I do know it is not the child's fault. Why punish a child who has done nothing wrong for someone else's sin. Should we as a society let the child go hungry or unclothed because we hate the mother's actions. I don't think so.

I find it ironic that the neo-cons care so much about the children, "until they are born" then it's don't ask the public to pay for your child.

telltales- it isn't those who promote the sanctity of life that mistreat children. The child neglecters are those with no morals that are populating the world with illegitimate kids
