The Rockingham Kiwanis Club will hold the second annual New Year’s Eve Gala on Dec. 31. The party will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will be held at the Liberty Place in Rockingham.
The Kiwanis International Club is a global organization for people of all ages who are committed to helping individuals and the community.
Nick Byrd, former president and chairman of the Gala, thought of the idea for the event from visiting other areas and noticing they had a special way to bring in the New Year.
Live entertainment will be provided by Nicki and da Blooze, a band from Florence, S.C., that plays a variety of dance music. Byrd said the band was a hit last year and “we decided to have them back.”
By combining celebrating and fund-raising, Byrd and Woodrow Gunter, secretary of the club, hope this will be a unique event that residents will continue to attend.
“This being the second year, we hope we can continue to build on last year’s success so that this can continue to be an annual event for the good people in our area looking for an exciting event to attend and bring in the New Year, without having to travel out of town,” said Gunter.
Tickets will be sold in advance and are $50 per person. Corporate sponsorships are $500, and entitle the business to four tickets and a table with name recognition. Donations are also welcome from people who cannot attend but who wish to contribute.
There will be a cash bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, party favors, and a midnight champagne toast. Semi-formal attire is required to attend.
The proceeds from the fund-raising Gala will benefit local charities and programs including the Terrific Kids program. The Terrific Kids program is a recognition program that promotes character development and self-esteem from kindergarten to fifth grade. Other programs are The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis One Day, Read Around the World, Young Children Priority One, Key Leader, Bring Up Grades and Alumni. The Kiwanis club also has two scholarships that benefit graduating seniors at Richmond Senior High School.
