ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Senior, coming off its open date, remained second in this week’s Associated Press poll.

The Raiders (5-0) received 106 points, while Butler snagged all 12 first-place ballots to finish with 120 points. The Bulldogs improved to 5-0 on the year following their 40-6 victory over Rocky River.

New Bern, Porter Ridge, Mallard Creek and Garner retain their spots in this week’s poll. The Bears were off and will face No. 8 New Hanover Friday in a battle of 5-0 squads. The Pirates slipped past Providence Day 17-7 to run their record to 5-0. The Mavericks improved to 4-1 with a 55-7 rout of Lake Norman, while the Trojans routed East Wake 41-14 to remain unbeaten in six games.

East Forsyth (6-0) moved up a spot to seventh after its 35-7 victory over Ragsdale. New Hanover (5-0) slipped to No. 8 despite knocking off Pinecrest 42-24.

Once again, Scotland was the only other Southeastern Conference school ranked in the top 10. The Fighting Scots stayed ninth coming off their open date. Jack Britt remained 10th after edging Mount Tabor 27-25 to move to 5-1 on the season.

This week’s NCPreps.com rankings, like the AP poll, were unchanged from first to sixth. Butler received all nine first-place votes, followed by Richmond, New Bern, Mallard Creek, Porter Ridge and Garner.

East Forsyth and New Hanover flipped spots with the Eagles moving up to seventh, while the Wildcats slid to eighth. Scotland remained ninth, but Wake Forest-Rolesville (6-0) jumped into the 10th spot following its 35-0 victory over Enloe.

The CarolinaPreps.com poll was full of changes again this week. The top three of Butler, Richmond and New Bern remained unchanged, but East Forsyth and Mallard Creek changed spots for the second straight week. The Eagles jumped into fourth, while the Mavericks fell to fifth.

New Hanover held steady at sixth, while Scotland moved up a spot to seventh. Porter Ridge fell from No. 7 to No. 8, while Garner and North Davidson rounded out the top 10.

After moving down the Maxpreps.com rankings for the last two weeks, Richmond remained at No. 5 this week. Butler and New Bern held onto the top two spots. East Forsyth jumped from sixth to third, followed by Porter Ridge. New Hanover, Mallard Creek, Scotland, Garner and Hoggard (5-0) rounded out the top 10.

Unlike the other polls which tabulates votes from writers across the state, Maxpreps.com uses computer-based rankings. The program takes into consideration quality wins against other highly-ranked opponents as well as strength of schedule.
