ROCKINGHAM — As Richmond Senior wide receivers Trent Bostick and Kole Stanley began to discuss tonight’s rivalry game with Scotland, the pair realized something — they had never beaten the Fighting Scots.

The pair haven’t pick up a victory against their neighbors to the east while playing on the ninth-grade team, as members of the junior varsity squad or in last year’s varsity contest.

“We are looking for a win against them as seniors,” Stanley said. “I want to come out hyped and give everything I have. I’m not going to think about last year, I’m going to keep that in the past.”

Bostick tries to downplay the last season’s 41-7 loss in Pate Stadium and remind his teammates what is at stake tonight.

“We want to win the SEC,” Bostick said. “Last year, we were a different team. We want to make sure what happened last year, doesn’t happen this year. This is the last time we get to them, we want to beat them.”

Members of the Richmond defensive unit are taking the contest as a stepping stone to their goals of winning an SEC and state championship.

“We have to treat it as just another game on the schedule,” Thomas Calhoun said. “I’m more focused on that it is Senior Night. I am trying to not pay attention to all the hype. We have to keep the most important thing in mind, which is playing in December.”

Devontae Watkins echoed his fellow cornerback’s thoughts saying the Raiders have been thinking about the big picture rather than focusing on revenge.

“We are taking it step-by-step,” Watkins said. “We are keeping what happened last year in the back of our minds, but we aren’t thinking about it as much. We know this is more than a game this year.”
