James Thomas Whitaker, 95, of Rockingham, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Hudson and Rev. David Parrish officiating. Entombment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will see friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
Whitaker was born July 20, 1917, in Richmond County, a son of the late Tommy Whitaker and the late Ada Chappell Whitaker Broomes. He was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, had served in the US Army in World War II and was a retired brick mason with Snead-Glidewell Construction Co. Whitaker was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita White Whitaker and a grandson, Daniel Williams.
Surviving are daughters, Brenda Therrell and Margaret Williams, both of Rockingham; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Irene Guinn and Louise Holmstead, both of Wallace.
