Surrounded by family and friends, Mary Correira celebrated her 100th birthday last week.
Originally from New Bedford, Massachusetts, Correira turned 100 on Sept. 28, 2012.
As a vivacious centenarian, she celebrated in true North Carolina style with her barbecue at her family home. Correira shared the extraordinary day with her son, Jim Correira, her four grandchildren and their spouses, seven of her great grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter.
When asked if she ever thought she would make it to 100, Mary responded, “Well, I’d hoped so!”
Mary comes from a long line of centenarians, including two grandmothers. She plans on continuing the tradition and even topping the family record of 104 years of age. Hats off to a great lady and congratulations on such a rare achievement.
