NC cooperative Extension Richmond County is partnering with Mount Olive College’s Louis G. Britt Agribusiness Center to conduct a farm transition workshop for county farmers and landowners. Mount Olive College received funding from the USDA Risk Management Agency to conduct farm transition regional events and workshops in a 20 county regions in central and eastern North Carolina.
The workshop will be held on Dec.13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at NC Cooperative Extension Richmond County. Pre-registration is required. This workshop is open to all farmers and landowners in and around the Richmond County. For information and to register, call 910-997-8255
This workshop will be a comprehensive review of farm transition and what participants need to know when they inherit land or receive land as a gift. The workshop will specifically include:
• A discussion on articulating what the farmer or landowner wants, what information to collect and how to make sound decisions.
• An overview of estate planning strategy and how the tools, such as wills planning and asset distribution planning.
• An overview practical ‘end of life’ planning for the family like bank accounts, power or attorney, etc.
• A discussion of business planning issues such as LLC for liability and farm transfer as well as an estate tax updates.
