Doris Goodwin Melvin, 76, of Laurinburg, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Hillside Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Woody Byrd. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at graveside and also at the family home.

Melvin was born September 6, 1936, in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Mima Moore and Leon Goodwin. She was the beloved wife to the late Council Alston Melvin. She worked in textiles with Springs Mills and with ARA Vending Company at JP Stevens, Inc.

She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Lyndsie Melvin and brother, Larry Bruce Goodwin.

Melvin is survived by daughters, Sue Norton of Laurinburg, Barbara Norton (Jerry) of Laurinburg, her son, David Melvin and (Kristy) of Newbern; brother, Tim Rhyne (Lu Ann) of Laurinburg; sister, Margaret Veshinski (Dan) of Marston; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews;

The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or the Hillside Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1492, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
