Dear Editor,

In regards to Mr. Jeff Singletary, I am very sorry that you as a student feels like Richmond Sr. High is a non-caring environment and I apologize for any negativity you may have endured.

I have had a few incidents as a parent at the first of the school year but I called and spoke with Mr. McKenzie (the principle) and he was very nice and addressed all of the issues I had in a timely manner. I feel that he is a great principle and is doing a fine job.

The office staff has always been very nice and helpful to me every time I have called. With that said, my son is in the 10th grade at Richmond and seems to have no problems at all. He has adjusted well at Richmond and gets along well with all of his classmates and teachers. In fact, he’s learned so much in his Civics and Economics class with Mr. Williams that he came home sounding like a politician. He really liked his teacher Ms. Melvin who is a biology teacher. She really kept the students excited about learning. He actually informed me not to get laser therapy any longer because from what he learned about human cells that lasers could make cancer cells spread at a very fast pace.

He is now taking Algebra II with Ms. Law and says that she encourages his class to do their best to have a cookie fest; I thought that was cute. He is also in Spanish II with Mrs. Coggins and said that she is a wonderful hands-on teacher who he absolutely adores. I would like to mention Tina Bass who works for the American Indian students as well. Any time I as a parent or my son has a question or would just like to talk with her, she always has time and addresses our every need. Tina is one of the most caring people we know.

In that respect, I know that there may be some glitches and things to work out in every school but overall, I think that Richmond Senior High has for the most part some really great caring teachers and principals I would like to say thank you to all of them for teaching and overseeing a school with so many students.

I feel very blessed that our son has the privilege of attending Richmond Sr. High School.
