Wimbleton tennis star Tony Wendice married his wife Margot for money. After discovering his wife’s affair with American TV murder mystery writer Max Halliday, Tony planned his wife’s murder wanting revenge and Margot’s money. But the hired murderer was murdered by Margot.
There’s mystery and drama at Richmond Community Theatre in “Dial ‘M’ for Murder” by Frederick Knott. Will Margot be convicted? Or will Scotland Yard discover the truth and free Margot in this British thriller? A suspense lover’s feast, the play opens Jan. 31 and runs Feb. 1 - 3 and Feb. 7 - 9.

In the cast, Bill Cleveland plays Tony Wendice. Margot Wendice is played by Darla McGuire. Cleve Baxley is the American boyfriend, Max Halliday. Scotland Yard detective Inspector Hubbard is played by Wayne Webb. The hired murderer, Captain Lesgate is played by Charles Deaver Jr. Filling out the cast playing various roles from police officers to lawyers, reporters, swindlers and announcers are Jerry Andrews, Amber Crowe, Theressa Smith, Krystal-Ann West and Walt Wood Sr.
Fredrick Knott’s play “Dial ‘M’ for Murder” was made famous by Alfred Hitchcock who directed the screen play in his 1954 movie. Though the order of some of the scenes are juxtaposed in the film, the script is almost the same. It is a well-written thriller chock-full of dramatic irony. The main character, Tony tells the audience the order of events in his perfectly planned murder. And yet, things don’t go exactly as planned.
“Dial ‘M’ for Murder” has the type of plot in which audience members can watch again and again, and find new details each time. Whether or not audience members have seen it before, it is a play that is certain to be interesting in each new production.
