Country music performer and Richmond County native Bucky Covington recently donated dog and cat food purchased with the proceeds from t-shirt sales to the Richmond County Humane Society.

The t-shirts are the same ones sold at Covington’s concerts. They were sold at Covington's Body Shop.

“The staff at the shelter said it was an early Christmas,” said Humane Society Director Candy Bacon said.

She said this time of year the birth cycle really picks up for stray animals, and the shelter receives up to 120 animals a week. Donations are also traditionally down during the summer, making private contributions essential.

“Every donation, whether it be food, cat litter, clean newspaper or dollars help” Bacon said.
