Sara Stancil Gazoo, 88, of Rockingham, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Rockingham Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28 at Second Baptist Church in Hamlet with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at 151 Old Charlotte Highway in Rockingham.

Sara was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Washington, a daughter of the late James Carl Stancil and Sara Ellen Flenniken Stancil. She was a homemaker and had been a member of Second Baptist Church in Hamlet. She taught cake decorating classes at Richmond Technical College and served in the Women’s Army Corps with the U. S. Army during World War II.

Mrs. Gazoo was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gazoo, and a sister, Martha Sugg.

Surviving are four sons, Michael Wicke of Ocean, N.J., Charles Gazoo of Spotsylvania, Va., Richard Gazoo of Salisbury and Edward Gazoo Jr. of Rockingham; four daughters, Joan Barbare of Burneyville, Okla., Sara Robbins, Margaret Watson, and Cathy Stewart, all of Rockingham; one brother, James C. Stancil of Fort Pierce, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
