Dr. Luiz Nascimento, internal medicine and nephrology specialist at Sandhills Regional Medical Center, was the guest speaker July 23 at the hospital’s Kidney School, which started in June. Members learned how blood pressure, medications and diet affect the health of kidneys. The Kidney School meets once a month through November at Sandhills Regional and is designed to help people understand kidney disease and its treatment. Lesa Greene, director of dialysis services for Southeast Acute Services, which operates SHRMC’s dialysis unit, said there are still open slots and anyone interested can join the free classes by calling (910) 205-8129 during normal business hours. Remaining topics will cover kidney lab tests, anemia, patients’ rights, treatment options, vascular access and nutrition.
